Protecting Yourself and Others from the spread of COVID-19

With the help of the tips listed below, you can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19.

  • Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands to kill viruses that may be on your hands. Wash your hands with soap and water or use a alcohol-based hand rub.

  • When around others, keep a distance between yourself and others of at least 1 metre (3 feet). The distance you keep helps with avoiding coming into contact with small liquid droplets, that may be produced when someone coughs, sneezes, or speaks. If too close, you could breathe in the droplets that contain the COVID-19 virus.
    • To keep with the distance rule, avoid crowded places. It is harder to maintain a distance and you are more likely to encounter someone that has COVID-19.
  • Refrain from touching your eyes, nose and mouth, because your hands can pick up and transfer the virus from coming into contact with many different surfaces.
  • Everyone should follow good respiratory hygiene. When sneezing or coughing, cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue. When using a tissue, dispose of it immediately and wash your hands. You want to lessen the amount of droplets, which lessens the spread.
  • Stay home and self isolate if you feel symptoms such as cough, headache, mild fever, even if they are mild. Have someone bring you supplies and if you need to leave your house, wear a mask to prevent the spread of infection. Masks help to prevent the spread of any possible COVID-19 and other viruses.
